The One World centre is a Development Education Centre working with schools and the community on the Isle of Man to encourage Global Citizenship.
We are a secular organisation with 3 main aims
to provide access to resources on development issues and development education Our Centre in Castletown is packed with DVD’s, books, magazines and posters available for loan to teachers, youth leaders and the public.
to network with and support all those working in Development Education such as schools, community groups and local charities. Through participatory workshops, craft activities, assemblies, story telling and schools projects we work alongside teachers, encouraging the use of development educational practices and bringing awareness of the Global Dimension into the curriculum. We maintain a high media profile through our public events, raising awareness at festivals and fetes, meetings and running community projects.
to promote awareness & understanding of current development issues and of how interconnected our global community is today. We make the links between our lives in the Isle of Man and the lives of people around the world. In all aspects of our work we celebrate life, culture and diversity, but importantly we also look at how global problems can be addressed locally. In our attitudes, our campaigning, our purchasing and our life styles we have the ability to develop Global Citizens in the Isle of Man. Campaigning is an integral part of our work, a platform for raising the profile of development issues as well as enabling local active participatory citizenship.
